Wildcats penalty kick good for 1-0 win

The Adirondacks’ Alexander Kaun scored on a penalty kick early in the second half in a 1-0 win over Remsen on Thursday at home in a nonleague game to start the season for both teams.

Wildcat goaltender Kaiden Bailey picked up a shutout victory in his college debut, stopping all seven shots he faced.

Remsen’s Owen Long stopped four shots.

Adirondack will play Poland at 6 p.m. Tuesday in a non-league game. Remsen hosts Herkimer at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in a non-league game.

New Hartford women’s soccer team extends winning streak to 38

Defending Class A state champions New Hartford women’s soccer team opened the season with a 6-0 win over Tri-Valley League host Camden on Thursday, extending their streak wins in 38 games.

The defending Class A state champions led 4-0 at halftime.

Willa Pratt scored four goals. Amanda Graziano and Erin Cahill each scored once. Talia Vitullo and Alex Volo picked up a pair of assists each.

In the Spartans net, Savannah Cole started and gave way to Abby O’Conor without a shot on goal. O’Conor stopped the only blow she faced.

Camden keeper Marjiore Castilla made 13 saves.

New Hartford hosts TVL opponent Whitesboro at 4 p.m. Thursday.

Camden plays Oneida at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday in the league.

RFA women’s football wins at HP

The Germany women’s soccer team won 3-1 against host Holland Patent on Thursday in the season opener for both TVL teams.

Mikayla McPheron, Mia Mirabelli and Brynn Furbeck each scored for the Black Knights. Ellyza Minicozzi and Amelia Furbeck got one assist each.

RFA goalkeeper Miranda McCormick stopped seven of eight shots on goal for the win.

For HP, Makenzie Stalker scored on an assist from Sophia Rachon.

Isabella Hobin made four saves in net for the Golden Knights.

FRG host West Genesee at midday today in a non-league game.

HP hosts VVS at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in the league.

Westhill rules out Clinton

The Clinton Girls’ Soccer team couldn’t beat Westhill to get a goal against host Westhill on Thursday, losing 3-0 in the non-league game.

Clinton goaltender Deanna Heintz stopped 11 shots.

Westhill statistics were not submitted.

Clinton hosts non-league opponent Sauquoit Valley at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

New Hartford edge out Canastota in field hockey

Ella Greico scored and assisted on the other goal in New Hartford’s 2-1 win at Canastota on Friday. The Spartans broke a 1-1 halftime tie with a third-quarter goal to go ahead for good.

The goal for the other Spartans was scored by Francesca Sardina-Boisen.

In the New Hartford goal, Emilee Clarey stopped 10 shots for the win.

Canastota’s Helen Shear scored her team’s only goal thanks to a pass from Kory Matteson.

Canastota keeper Chloe Curtis made five saves.

New Hartford plays a non-league game at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Vernon-Verona-Sherrill.

Canastota hosts Sauquoit Valley at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in a non-league game.

Grimm sisters score three goals in Clinton victory

Clinton Field Hockey secured a 5-2 win over host Whitesboro on Thursday. Gracen Grimm scored twice in the win.

Gretchen Grimm scored and had two assists for Clinton. Skyler McFadden and Lauren Rey also scored a goal each.

In Clinton’s cage, Chloe White stopped six shots for the win.

Whitesboro’s Addison Cook scored and assisted on a Casey Clausen goal.

Whitesboro goaltender Isabella Arizarry made 19 saves.

Clinton, now 1-0, hosts a non-league East Syracuse-Minoa opponent at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Whitesboro hosts Camden at 6 p.m. Wednesday in a non-league game.

Warriors edge Ballston Spa

The Whitesboro boys’ soccer team scored a 1-0 win over non-league opponents Ballston Spa on Friday.

Joshua Gorgas scored the game’s only goal on an assist from Denis Seferagic.

Whitesboro goaltender Devin Trevisani stopped all four shots for the shutout victory.

Statistics for Ballston Spa have not been submitted.

Whitesboro next plays at 6 p.m. Tuesday against TVL host Utica Proctor.

Gannon scores four goals in RFA football rout

Collin Gannon scored four goals and added an assist as Rome Free Academy beat Holland Patent 8-0 in the Tri-Valley League on Thursday.

Germany was leading 3-0 at halftime.

Raheem Taylor scored and had two assists. Amanuel Mellace scored a goal and an assist. Hack Rushton and Chris Rivas also scored. Gavin Civitelli got an assist.

Max Hilderbran made two saves in net for RFA during the shutout. HP’s Andrew Stanley made 10 saves.

RFA, now 1-0, play non-league opponents Westhill at lunchtime today. HP, 0-1, plays TVL opponent Vernon-Verona-Sherrill at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Whitesboro eliminates ES-M in women’s tennis

The Whitesboro women’s tennis team shut out host East Syracuse-Minoa 6-0 on Thursday.

The singles winners are Emma Kane, Lauren Legation and Katherine Mullen.

The winning doubles pairs were Karina Andronovich and Julia Dzeravenets, Jordyn Howlett and Tessa Nash, Sarah Mullen and Averi Kraeger and Kayla Burt and Samara Giori.

Whitesboro hosts TVL opponent Utica-Notre Dame at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.
