(KNSI) – St. Cloud police say an argument over a football game led to a large scuffle involving about 20 people.
Officers were called around 9 a.m. Sunday to a men’s football tournament at St. Cloud Tech High School for a big fight. The fighting had ceased by the time officers arrived.
Police say one person suffered minor injuries from the scuffle but did not require medical attention. Investigators say they don’t know what started the fight, but it appears to be gambling-related.
The SCPD says it helped staff for about 30 minutes to evacuate everyone involved from the football pitch and parking lot. No arrests were made and no tickets were issued.
Police said it was an adult men’s soccer tournament that rented the grounds from the St. Cloud area school district for three weekends. Soccer games are not a school district event.
The offices say some of those involved in the fight went to a gas station in the 3700 block of South 23rd Street; however, the SCPD says there were no reports of fights or incidents at the gas station.
Investigators say St. Cloud police have responded to two similar fights in the past few weeks. There was a fight involving 25 people on Friday night near Southeast 12th Street and Southeast 11th Street, which also resulted in minor injuries that did not require medical attention. On July 31, there was a report of several people fighting in Lake George.
