With four games under their belt for the 2021 season and no wins to brag about, Paducah Tilghman’s men’s football team needs a change. The Blue Tornado lost their fourth straight game on Monday night, August 23, to the Mayfield High School Cardinals. At the final whistle, the scoreboard indicated 4-1 in favor of the Cardinals.
The Blue Tornado face similar circumstances to the start of the 2020 season. In fact, they stand to suffer the same fate the team faced, the fate of potentially achieving zero wins over the season. That’s right, the 2020 Blue Tornado has suffered what all sports teams fear the most, not winning a single game, and if this 2021 roster is to ensure that the same fate doesn’t repeat itself, they’ll have to win. only one match.
Mayfield were as good a team as any to take this victory. The Cardinals have a record one-and-two on the season, and a most recent cancellation due to COVID-19 has kept them out of a game since August 19. They also had a tough 2020 season, winning just four games, down to eight. losses and two draws. It was the Cardinals’ first game away from home this season and it could have put the team back on track.

With 34 minutes to play in the first half, the Cardinals were there thanks to striker Deigo Fabian. Not 10 minutes later, Mayfield would send another ball into the net, giving the Cardinals a 2-0 lead with plenty of time to play.
Blue Tornado got their break 23 minutes from the end of the first half when Carlos Cristobal scored a breakaway goal after being nearly stopped on the ground by the Cardinal’s keeper. It was just the momentum Tilghman needed to potentially take the lead.
Neither team scored until the 17-minute mark in the second half when Fabian scored his second and final goal on the evening and gave the Cardinals a 3-1 lead with time running out. ‘flowed. However, the Blue Tornado continued to fight, not allowing Mayfield to easily descend onto the field. A Cardinals corner kick led to a header in a crowd of blue and white jerseys and the ball slipped into the net for the fourth and final goal of the night.
Tilghman will start a three-game road stint starting Thursday, August 26 when they face St. Mary, followed by McCracken County on September 2 and Murray on September 9. Mayfield will also continue road games against St. Mary on Tuesday. .
