A brand new football simulation called UFL has just been revealed.
The all-new game reveal took place earlier today during Gamescom Opening Night Live 2021, hosted as always by Geoff Keighley. Halfway through the celebrations, a very brief UFL cinematic trailer was shown, revealing a brand new football game entering the stage.
The very short trailer didn’t reveal much about the game, at all. We’ve seen all the usual things you’d naturally associate with any soccer game, or actual game for that matter: the players lacing up their shoes, walking around the pitch, and kicking the ball around a bit.
However, there was an emphasis on fair play throughout the reveal trailer for the new game. In the UFL trailer, the phrase “fair to play” was displayed on the inside. screen towards the end of the trailer, and immediately after that, a developer appeared for a few seconds to stress the importance of the game for fair to play. We’re not quite sure how that takes shape in the game itself, but is it a bit of a shot at EA’s dominant FIFA franchise? Only time will tell.
Nonetheless, it’s nice to have another soccer contender trying to carve out a niche for themselves in the sports gaming landscape. Right now the pitch is undoubtedly FIFA governed, with FIFA 22 arriving later this year, and PES has been renamed “eFootball” and is in fact becoming a free-to-play game when it launches this year.
