WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY – Slip on the sneakers, grab a ball and head to the all-new Highbridge Park soccer field in Washington Heights.
The field was officially opened on Tuesday morning with a groundbreaking ceremony attended by Council Member Ydanis Rodriguez, President of Community Council 12 Eleazar Bueno and residents of the community.
The artificial turf pitch is closest to the 175th Street park entrance, and the space also features newly paved walkways, a water fountain, and a collection of newly planted trees.
“Let’s keep working together, make sure our Upper Manhattan kids have the same great green space as all the kids on the Upper West Side and Upper East Side,” Rodriguez said at the opening of the field.
Rodriguez also thanked Mayor Bill de Blasio, Parks Department Commissioner Mitchell Silver and residents of Inwood and Washington Heights for helping bring the new field to the area.
The football field was funded with $ 4 million of the $ 30 million Rodriguez helped secure with de Blasio for the Highbridge Park renovations.

Highbridge Park stretches from West 155th Street to Dyckman Street and also has several basketball, baseball, tennis and other sports grounds.
