Goals are the ecstasy of football, so much so that it is difficult to defend 0-0 games, even when they can be quite entertaining at times.
The beautiful game is just missing something when the ball does not kiss the back of the net. An abundance of goals is always welcome by fans and the press.
Of course, goals are cool, except when your favorite team concedes them.
This feeling of shipwreck.
In the midst of these deep thoughts, we decided to do some research in order to answer the following question: What is the most goals scored in a single game?
The question can be answered in at least two different ways; namely: what is the greatest number of goals scored in a single match in total? And second, what is the most goals that a single player has scored in a game?
As for the first question, we’ll ask the reader to spend a few seconds guessing. Close your eyes. Look for the answer in your footballer’s soul.
Is that 10 goals? 15? Maybe 20 a good day?
Well the answer is way beyond that.
It’s true. 149 goals. Photo: @FUTKOLKK | Twitter
In 2002, two Malagasy teams met in Antananarivo, it was AS Adema which hosted SO Emyrne. Few expected this day to appear in the Guinness Book of Records as the highest score in history.
The game was played in a round robin to determine the national championship. However, the title was decided in favor of DSA Antananarivo in the penultimate round with an extremely controversial and late penalty.
The decision left SO Emyrna no chance of winning the title, and finding that the contested appeal had affected them negatively, SO Emyrna decided to protest.
The result: The match ended 149-0 (!!!) in favor of AS Adema. How the hell did that happen, you might wonder with awe?
After the kick-off, SO Emyrna went to score a goal against his own camp, then another, and another until the final whistle. It was that easy.
The players on the other team just watched in puzzlement.
After the match, SO L’Emyrne coach Zaka Be, accompanied by four players from the team, have been suspended. The coach received a three-year suspension while the players were suspended until the end of the season.
Now on most goals scored by a single male player in a match: The international record is held by Australia’s Archie Thompson, who scored 13 goals against American Samoa in Australia’s 31-0 win during qualifying for the 2002 FIFA World Cup.
Previously, John Petrie had also scored 13 goals for Sottish club Arbroath against Bon Accord in 1885.
Malika-e-Noor holds the record for most goals in a women’s match with a total of 14 in September 2011. It was in a Pakistani women’s football championship match.
