Man arrested in Briargate after shooting gun near football match

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) — Bystanders arrested a man who was allegedly seen firing his gun near a football game on Sunday afternoon.

According to police, when they stopped at the scene on Springcrest Road and Voyager Parkway, they found several citizens restraining the suspect.

Officers had been called to the area just after 4 p.m. after receiving several shots.

“The reports involved a man shooting a gun and a woman hiding. The location of the event was in front of a college where an adult men’s league football game was taking place,” police said.

Officers learned that after the suspect emptied all the rounds from his gun, witnesses grabbed him and held him down until law enforcement showed up. No one at the scene was injured. The suspect was taken into custody and examined at an area hospital. Police say he was intoxicated and suffering from some sort of mental health episode. He has since been incarcerated in the El Paso County Jail, where he remains Monday morning.
