For the Antigo Times
Antigo Robin’s soccer team traveled to Shawano on Tuesday night to face the Hawks in their last non-conference game of the year.
Antigo started with the first touch and did a terrific job getting started. The defense kept their line high and held it well, allowing the midfielder to attack the ball. Hannah Nonnenmacher moved the ball forward and landed an early shot, but only to miss the goal.
The Robins started to loosen up and lose communication, but quickly fixed the issue and played a great game. The Hawks scored their first goal at 41:20. Antigo came back quickly and moved the ball for a breakaway from Jami Nonnenmacher, but she couldn’t connect with the back of the net.
Shawano landed a shot in the 56th minute after Antigo goalkeeper Jena Nonnenmacher couldn’t get her hands on it quickly enough. Antigo did not back down and fought fiercely across the field filled with mosquitoes. They played a great defensive game and left everything they had on the pitch.
Shawano scored 2 more goals in the second half, bringing the final score to 4-0. Jena Nonnenmacher had a phenomenal night with 22 saves.
Antigo traveled to the Rhineland on Thursday for their last conference game of the season.
