Special to the star
Kansas City Current looked like they were on their way to victory against the expansion San Diego Wave thanks to goals from Elyse Bennett and Kristen Hamilton.
But superstar Alex Morgan appeared at the back post in the dying minutes to level the match, securing a 2-2 tie that gave each team a point in the National Women’s Soccer League standings.
Kansas City Current conceded on set pieces on Saturday night, scoring both of its goals from a corner.
Morgan scored both goals for San Diego in front of the largest crowd in KC Current history with 7,954 in attendance at Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kan.
Kristen Hamilton’s first-half header was canceled out by an Alex Morgan penalty. Elyse Bennett scored her second goal of the season which looked to be the winner for the Current.
However, the ball found its way through several defenders to Alex Morgan at the far post, who kicked home into an empty net in the 90th minute.
