A teenage girl is fighting for her life in hospital after collapsing during a football game in Surfers Paradise overnight.
Ava Azzopardi reportedly suffered a “serious medical incident” after entering the grounds of Surfers Paradise Apollo Soccer Club at around 6.30pm on Friday.
Nine Queensland ambulance teams, including critical care paramedics and the High Emergency Response Unit, responded to the incident.

A Queensland Ambulance spokesman said the 14-year-old was treated at the scene before being rushed to Gold Coast University Hospital in critical condition.
Football Gold Coast has since released a statement on Facebook, confirming that Ava is now in an induced coma.
“Football Gold Coast would like to send our thoughts and prayers to Ava Azzopardi, who is in an induced coma at QLD Children’s Hospital after collapsing in the U14 Girls’ Division 1 Grand Final last night/ 15 against Magic United,” the post read.
“The Azzopardi family expressed their sincere thanks to all of the first responders who kept Ava alive until paramedics arrived.
“Football Gold Coast, in conjunction with Football Queensland, have offered Expert Critical Advisors to Runaway Bay Soccer Club from 10am today for all families and football players to support.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Ava Azzopardi and her family.”
