CHS women’s soccer remains undefeated on Monday, men’s soccer, field hockey and women’s V-Ball get road wins

Cheshire High School Women’s Football (15-0) went unbeaten with a 3-0 victory over Foran (7-8). CHS set a team record for regular season wins and also swept the regular season series with the Lions.

CHS struck first with 23:35 left in the first half, as three-time senior captain Gabby Tirado scored on a net charge. With 20:33 remaining in the frame, Tirado scored the second goal for senior Haley Shaw.

To end the scoring with 34:10 left in the competition, senior tri-captain Anna Hurlbut converted on a feed from rookie Abby Sink.

Cheshire picked up their 12th shutout of the year. Junior goaltender Sophie Bates had two saves, including a second-half diving deflection.

The CHS allowed only four goals this fall.

For the third consecutive season, Cheshire posted a shutout in their Theresa’s Battleship Foundation Play in Purple Game. Launched in memory of Theresa Fitzpatrick, 2012 graduate and former football and tennis co-captain, Theresa’s Battleship has raised and donated over $1 million for childhood cancer research at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center .

Fitzpatrick died of cancer in 2013, but the foundation continued its mission.

On Wednesday, Cheshire is looking to win the program’s perfect first regular season by hosting Sacred Heart Academy (9-5) at 3:45 p.m. In the first meeting on September 27, the Rams posted a 2-0 shutout at Hamden .

women’s volleyball (17-2)

CHS extended their winning streak to nine games, winning 3-0 (25-5, 25-16, 25-17) at Branford (9-9). Three-time senior captain Avery Mola set a personal best ace with 10, along with 12 kills and five digs.

Seniors Mimi Perlini (seven assists) and Alex Lucas (six kills) also had five recoveries. Three-time senior captain Sophia Surato provided 15 assists. Sophomore Eva Catalanotto recorded four aces, three blocks and two kills.

To end the regular season on Wednesday, CHS travels to play Farmington (8-10) at 6 p.m.

Field hockey (11-3-1)

Cheshire picked up a 2-1 victory at Lauralton Hall (8-8) in Milford. To end the first quarter, senior Taya Buntin scored on a pass from schoolmate Ava Matikowski.

Lauralton Hall junior Kelly Monahan tied the game in second, but on a penalty corner with 11:30 left in the game, three-time senior captain Colby Paul scored the winner. With his second assist, Matikowski equaled his personal best.

Junior goaltender Ginny Curello made two saves.

For the regular season finale on Wednesday, Cheshire takes on Daniel Hand (10-4-1) at 6:30 p.m. In the first meeting on October 18, the Tigers won 1-0.

At a pregame ceremony on Wednesday, Paul, all three captains Gigi Ranoldo and Cat Palma, Bailey, Buntin, Katelyn Daly, Clara Dempsey, Ava Harris, Elise Hurlburt, Kyla Kampf, Matikowski, Autumn Mitchell, Caitlyn Rivera, Emily Rodin, Reilly Whalen, Tamara Zenzola and manager Mallory DePaolo will be honored on the senior night.

boys soccer (11-2-1)

In the regular season finale, the Rams extended their unbeaten streak to eight games with a 3-0 win at Guilford (11-3-2). Cheshire took a 2-0 lead in the first half.

Senior quad-captain Samir Dishnica had a goal and an assist. Senior quad-captain Kevi Sulollari and junior Will Stearns scored, while senior quad-captain Colin Brown had an assist.

Cheshire got its sixth shutout. Junior keeper Nolan Kappus provided a save.

CHS will next play in the Connecticut Southern Conference Tournament. The ranking has not yet been announced.
