It’s been 15 years, but the wait is finally over. In the latest Nintendo Direct, Nintendo revealed Mario Strikers: Battle League, the first entry to Mario Strikers franchise in fifteen years! Pretty crazy to think it’s been so long since Accused? I had to pinch myself. You can check out the trailer below in a tweet from Nintendo.
The game seeks to bring the basic elements of Mario Strikers back games. Regular football gameplay combined with elements of the Mario franchise and signature special moves for each captain. What’s new in the core mechanics this time is gear. Each piece of gear can alter your character’s stats to better suit your playstyle on the field. From the trailer, it looks like players will be able to experiment with gear combinations to their liking.
So what’s up this time for Mario Strikers: battle league? First, up to eight players can play locally on any Switch like in Super Smash Bros Ultimate. Second, online play will allow people to create league clubs that you and twenty other people can enjoy over the course of a league season. I can already tell that these leagues are going to ruin friendships.
Super Mario Strikers: Battle League will be released on June 10. If you want to see the rest of the Nintendo Direct, you can do so here! Are you excited to get back on the field with Mario and the gang? Let us know below!
