Argentina cancels all football matches for some wild reason

It’s quite common for football matches and sports competitions of all kinds to be suspended due to weather conditions or natural disasters, but all Argentine professional football matches were canceled on Friday for a much more shocking reason: an attempt to assassination against one of the leaders of the country. .

According ESPNthe Argentine Football Association cancels all matches on Friday after an assassination attempt on Argentine vice-president Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner.

“The Argentine Football Association expresses its strongest repudiation of what happened with Vice President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner,” the AFA said in a statement, according to ESPN. “We call out to society as a whole, warning that violence of any kind is never the solution.”

The Argentinian vice-president was assaulted by a man on Thursday evening as she was returning home. A man came out of a crowd, pointed a gun to his head at close range, and pulled the trigger, but the gun did not fire properly.

In all, three matches were suspended on Friday: Patronato against Union, Rosario Central against Talleres and Lanus against Tigre.

While the suspension of football games due to an assassination attempt is certainly not a typical delay, it is a very reasonable delay, all things considered.
