Arcadia’s Cagle named Gatorade Arizona Women’s Soccer Player of the Year

Phoenix Arcadia’s Maggie Cagle is the 2020-21 Gatorade Arizona Women’s Soccer Player of the Year.

5-foot-5 junior midfielder Cagle is the first Arcadia player to be chosen for the award. She scored a team high 14 goals with 12 assists in 10 games played last season.

Cagle, who made a verbal commitment to Virginia, led Arcadia to an 8-6 record and lost as the 10th seed to No. 7 Goodyear Millennium, 3-1, in the first round of the tournament. ‘State 5A on March 10.

“Maggie has given us a lot of trouble,” Peoria Liberty women’s soccer head coach Kyle Pooler said in a statement. “Her vision and her ability to pass the ball to her teammates was exceptional. She also has the ability to put the ball on the frame from any distance. She is a very special player.”

The award recognizes outstanding athletic excellence, high standards of academic achievement, and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field.

Cagle holds a grade point average of 4.70 in school.

She is now a finalist for the Gatorade National Girls Soccer Player of the Year award, which will be announced in June.
